Penicillium and Aspergillus species in the habitats of allergy patients in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area

چکیده
Penicillium and Aspergillus have been recognized as important aeroallergens for more than 30 years, and are especially significant in indoor environments. There are over 400 species of Penicillium and Aspergillus combined, but there is little information on which species occur most frequently in the environment, or if each exhibits unique allergenic properties. A preliminary study showed no overlap between those species isolated from an outdoor site in Tulsa, Oklahoma and the species used in immunotherapy at allergy clinics in the Tulsa area. Pursuing this line of research, air samples were collected as three seasonal samples (over a 6 month period) in the homes or offices of ten allergy patients known to be allergic to Penicillium and/or Aspergillus. Twenty three species of Penicillium and 12 species of Aspergillus were identified from these samples through isolation, macroscopic, and microscopic examination. Penicillium corylophilum, P. glabrum, Aspergillus niger, and A. flavipes were the most abundant species isolated, supporting the data obtained in a preliminary study. At least in the Tulsa area, it appears that atopic patients are being tested and treated with extracts of Penicillium and Aspergillus species that are either not present or not abundant in the local indoor or outdoor environments. Additional research is necessary to determine if the environmental isolates share allergens with those species used in immunotherapy. 9 1997 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd.

Frequency of Mold Allergens in Allergic Rhinitis Patients
Abstract Background and Objective: Allergic rhinitis can be stimulated by several allergens. Molds are among these allergens and it is important to assess their frequency in different geographic area. Hence, we aimed at determining the frequency of mold allergens in allergic rhinitis patients referred to specialized clinics of Tabriz Imam Reza hospital, 2011. Material and Methods: This cross-...

Abstract Introduction: fungi exist all over the world and about as much as flowering plants are abundant and diverse. They reproduce through spores. Fungi can grow at body temperature and may easily infect susceptible people and make some infections. The study of fungal spores is one of the important indicators of biological air quality. So, it defined as the purpose of this study. Metho...
متن کاملPrevalence of Mold Allergy in Asthmatic Patients of Less than 18 Years Old in Semnan
Background & Aims: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways which is associated with the triad of cough, wheezing and dyspnea. Allergic asthma is often associated with a personal or family history of allergic diseases and mostly begins at early childhood. Mold is one of the most common irritants of asthma and allergic rhinitis. In the last 20 years there has been 30% increase in ...
متن کاملPhylogenetic analysis of HSP70 gene of Aspergillus fumigatus reveals conservation intra-species and divergence inter-species
Aspergillus fumigatus is a saprophyte fungus, widely spread in a variety of ecologicalniches and the most prevalent aspergilli responsible for human and animal invasiveaspergillosis. The first step to develop novel and efficient therapies is the identificationand understanding of the key tolerance and virulence factors of pathogens. The mainfocus of the present study is to perform the similarit...
متن کاملFractionation and identification of the allergic proteins in Aspergillus species
Background and Purpose: Allergy is an undesired immune response to non-pathogenic agents. However, some opportunistic microorganisms such as fungi can also cause allergy. Among those fungi, hyphae form of Aspergillus strains including A. fumigatus, A. flavus, and A. niger could be mentioned. In this study, we aimed to separate allergic proteins from Aspergillus strains and determine their ident...
